After
our first contact with volunteers from Acts Ministry, today the time has come of
fitting further pieces of the puzzle and after the well-deserved rest we have
reached the Church of Acts to have our morning meeting before work. The meeting
has begun by the Group of the child programme led by Mechi. Philip has taken
the musical baton and it has been a good opportunity to start testing what in a
couple of days we will have on the spectacular work!

Media hora después, llegaba el momento de continuar con la preparación de las diferentes consultas y del quirófano para oftalmología. A medida que empezaban a estar listas las salas, han empezado a funcionar progresivamente. Una de las primeras ha sido la de Medicina General, con los doctores Joaquín Rodríguez, Daniel Sedgewick y Jeremie Hien. También la consula de ORL/Audiología con el Dr. Olmo y Abigail. Ha sido de especial emoción, ver como a pesar de las carencias tecnológicas de este país, en esta consulta se hacían exploraciones audiológicas muy completas. Tal y como os dijimos ayer, uno de los muchos obstáculos que hemos tenido es que dos de las cajas más importantes de nuestro envío de material aún no han llegado. Se trata del ecógrafo y del miscroscopio, dos piezas muy importantes para nuestro trabajo. Una vez más, Dios ha provisto de soluciones. En el caso del ecógrafo, la semana pasada una organización de USA hizo la donación de un pequeño ecógrafo con el que el Dr. Matas ha empezado a trabajar junto a la Dra. Clarisse Poda, para que en unos días sea ella la que pueda usar este aparato en este centro, a la espera de que llegue nuestro material.
A medida que las consultas empezaban a funcionar, el laboratorio también iniciaba su actividad con los pacientes derivados de las respectivas consultas. Wilson, junto al responsable del laboratorio empezaban a usar un laboratorio muy bien dotado del instrumental necesario para realizar analíticas completas.

Debido a la complejidad del trabajo y las dificultades que han ido apareciendo, el último grupo en empezar con los pacientes ha sido el de oftalmología. La cirugía de carataratas empezó ya entrada la tarde, aunque fueron muchos los pacientes visitados desde media mañana. En principio estaba previsto tener dos quirófanos operativos, pero debido al retraso del material de momento se ha empezado a trabajar con uno a pleno rendimiento. Por nuestra experiencia en este tipo de viajes somos conscientes que en estos lugares se hace muy difícil empezar la actividad, y una vez han pasado los primeros días todas las piezas van encajando perfectamente. Todo el grupo está cansado después de estos dos primeros días de trabajo intenso pero al mismo tiempo esta muy animado porque ahora ya hemos empezado el contacto directo con los pacientes.

Due
to the complexity of the work and the difficulties that have appeared, the last

first days all the pieces are fitting perfectly. The entire group is tired
after these first two days of intense work, but at the same time this very
lively because now we have already started the direct contact with patients.
Por supuesto no queremos olvidar un grupo que este año tiene un gran trabajo por delante. Se trata del Programa infantil. Ya el primer día mientras preparaban el material y las actividades muchos niños se acercaban deseosos de empezar la actividad. Hoy, más de 80 niños han participado de una gran variedad de actividades bajo paraguas de los derechos humanos de los niños. Multitud de juegos, deportes, música y niños y niñas de Burkina Faso, serán los protagonistas durante los días que estemos aquí.

Of
